Frequently asked questions
Are your seeds hybrid or GMO?
All of our seeds are open-pollinated, meaning growers can save and share them year after year. Many are heirlooms, but we also carefully select and adapt modern open-pollinated varieties that thrive in the southeast.
On rare occasions we offer a hybrid in high demand and always note it clearly. Most of our seeds are grown by us and other community members. A few are sourced from reliable farm-based seed companies. Sourcing is indicated in the description for each variety.
We do not sell GMO seeds.

How can I learn more about saving seeds?
We have lots of free resources geared to Florida growers on our Resources page. You can also check out our seed saving kit, which includes a comprehensive guide and all the basic materials you need to get started saving your own seeds. If you are in the area and want to learn more about how you can get involved in growing our local seed supply, please reach out to Melissa: melissa@workingfood.org.
Do you teach classes on gardening or seed saving?
Yes! In late 2026, we will launch an in-depth, online seed-and-garden school covering topics from garden planning and seed starting to pest and disease management and seed saving. Modules are offered on a sliding scale and can be purchased individually or as a full package.
