Anise Hyssop

Agastache foeniculum

$4.50
Description

We love this plant so very much! The pollinators do too, which is our main reason for growing Anise Hyssop, but the tasty leaves and flowers are also a pleasure! They taste like a sweet anise/licorice and are excellent in teas.

Purple flowers are gorgeous, abundant and very attractive to many pollinators. Seeds are easy to save too!

Trimming/topping early on when plants are young will encourage more branched, bushy plants. They will die back when summer temperatures start soaring and are best sown in the fall for spring blooms.

How to grow

Sow seeds very shallowly after the threat of frost has passed, in full sun. Space plants 12–18" apart.

Anise hyssop is pretty low-maintenance and will do well in a typical vegetable garden with good soil and regular irrigation. In Florida, we've had it growing for most of the year, though it may struggle during periods of extreme summer heat or freezing temperatures.

How to save seeds

Easy to save seeds! After flowering, watch for flowers to die back a bit. Rub between your fingers and see if small seeds release. Clip the flowers off and let dry indoors. Flowers create an abundance of seeds! Seeds are very tiny and black and can easily be removed from dried flowers by rubbing vigorously between your hands.
