How to grow

Sow 1/4-1/2" deep or less about 12" apart. Direct sow or start as transplants. Seeds vary in size but grow just the same, regardless!

Calendula prefers cooler weather and will start to fade away as late spring temperatures creep up. They will be leafy throughout the fall and early winter, and burst forth in cheerful blooms early spring.

As with all flowers, these will do better in good quality garden soil with irrigation.

How to save seeds

After flowering, petals will shrivel away and the central flower head will begin developing lots of seeds, of various sizes from small to large. All are good seed regardless of size!

They will easily separate from the plant when ready, with a very gentle rubbing. They should be brown at this point. Very easy to save seeds from! The only challenge is wet weather as seeds are drying.

Stems can be clipped into a paper bag, and brought indoors to further dry and develop.
