Another great variety from the seed growers at Row 7 Seed Company! We trialed this romaine-type lettuce in our Florida gardens and were stunned by how well it performed. It has thick, dark green leaves that look surprisingly similar to spinach, and the flavor and texture are unlike any other lettuce we've grown.
It grew vigorously through our season with no sign of disease until much later, when the plants were nearing the end of their life and beginning to go to seed. The few that had tip burn were removed from the field, leaving only the best plants for seed saving.
It also handled an unusually cold stretch for Florida in January 2026 better than we expected. Several nights dropped to around 20°F, and frost cloths blew off, killing many plants in the garden, including other lettuce varieties. Spinach Lettuce made it through with little trouble.
We're especially excited about the flavor! Compared with the watery, mild lettuces that can sometimes feel like little more than a vehicle for salad dressing, this one has real substance, with thick leaves and a satisfying texture. It's become a new favorite for us, and we'll be growing it every year.
This is a limited batch of seed saved from the plants that survived our strange Florida winter of wildly swinging temperatures—spring one day, winter the next.
For more of the story behind this variety, check out Row 7 Seed Company's account of how lettuce breeder Bill Waycott developed it. The goal was simple, though it took years to achieve: make it easier to increase your daily nutrient intake by simply eating a salad.
