How to grow

Cosmos dislike being soggy, and have struggled in really wet, rainy summers, but still produce and send out lots of seeds and volunteers.

Prefers full sun but tolerates some shade. Once established, cosmos seem to tolerate poor soils and drought conditions. But like most things, do better in good quality garden soil. Sow 1/4" deep about 12" apart. Can be direct sown after last frost. Grow a bunch one year and you may never have to get seed again from us!

How to save seeds

These are incredibly easy to save seed from, and they also self-sow readily in the garden.

After the flowers start to decline, watch the central flower head. As they dry, you'll start to see numerous pointy seeds (pictured). They fall of very easily when ready.

The only real challenge is wet weather while the seeds are drying. If rain is on the way, bring the stems inside and let them finish drying there.
