A truly beautiful lettuce with ruffled edges and gorgeous bronze and rose coloring.
This variety was recommended to us by local farmers for its tolerance of the warm weather that can sneak into our cool season, causing lettuces to bolt and become bitter. It is slow to bolt and has good tolerance to tipburn and bottom rot, along with strong disease resistance, including resistance to several races of downy mildew and lettuce mosaic virus. Slow bolting is especially important to us and is one of the key traits we select for in our climate.
And it tastes great, too! The reddish portions, where minerals are more concentrated, tend to have the most flavor. Cher Ashley Rella describes it as a drier lettuce that’s especially good for sandwiches and salads, needing only a very light dressing.
